12 Month Art Work

An homage to the work of Tehching Hsieh...

Over the course of twelve months I will create an art work in lived time.

Each month will require the completion of a daily task for the duration of the entire month.

At the end of 12 months these tasks will make a rhythm in my life as it is lived.

Anyone who becomes aware of this art work is invited to create it for themselves.

See documentation page to the left for images of this artwork.

  1. I love the term "lived art". It is so monastic like. I might guess very few live in this space for any length of time if ever. What a wonderful discipline, the rote becoming the new dimension. I'm guessing that your awareness is being heightened by the moment. At first I didn't understand the washer comment but now I get it. The necessity of washing your one outfit reveals a new discipline of washing your clothes. How mundane yet so symbolic. How freeing is it to not to have to think about what to wear each day? I am guessing the whole experience is about not thinking so you can free up your mind for the moment. Gas everyday you drive, another symbolic gesture, filling up each day with what sustains you. How many of us become aware of what we are filling up with? I hope you are journaling each day to see where this leads you.
